Cordula will show you how to use household materials to explore the wonderful world of chemistry in the kitchen: how do you make rainbow noodles for dinner? What’s happening when you bake a cake? How can you set up your own lab at home and experiment with kitchen materials? And lots more!

What you will need:

1. Red cabbage juice (PARENTS: boil half a head of red cabbage in 2L water the day before. Remove the cabbage leaves once the now purple liquid has cooled down. Store the purple-red cabbage juice in the fridge)
2. Access to water
3. Noodles
4. Baking soda
5. Vinegar
6. Three or more transparent glasses or cups
7. Spoons
8. Rubber gloves
9. A tray or similar to cover the surface of the kitchen table

Artist Bio: Cordula Weiss is a materials scientist and science communicator at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT). With colourful and fun hands-on workshops for everyone she shares her passion for all things science with participants of all ages, interests and skills. Cordula is part of Calmast, WIT’s science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) engagement centre and the SFI STEM Hub for the South-East. Calmast’s mission is to drive a positive attitude towards STEM and awareness of the importance of STEM in everyone’s life.
