The inimitable Felispeaks has curated an event that hopes to inspire thought, excitement and perspective. Longford native Felicia Olusanya is a poet, playwright and performer at the forefront of a pioneering new literary scene in Ireland.  Ably joined by Leke Ogunde and Samuel Yakura, this evening event is sure to be a highlight.

Felicia Olusanya

Felispeaks is a Nigerian-Irish Poet, Performer, and Playwright from Co. Longford. As well as being a member of the Dublin City Council’s Culture Company Advisory Panel; Joined 2018, Felispeaks is a member of the Board of Members for Poetry Ireland; appointed June 2020. Felispeaks has been nominated ‘Best Performer’ by Dublin Fringe Festival Sep. 2018 Judges for her performance in ‘BOYCHILD’, a co-written play by Dagogo Hart and herself. Felispeaks has also had the opportunity to perform her poetry at Concern 50th Anniversary in Dublin Castle in September 2018 that included speakers such as UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed, President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, President Bill Clinton and Former President of Ireland Mary Robinson. Felicia has also been honoured with an award by the (APNI) African Professional Network of Ireland for her unique contribution to the art scene in Dublin City, December 2017.  Felispeaks is member of WeAreGriot, a poetry collective consisting of herself, Dagogo Hart & Samuel Yakura – curating poetry/rap events – Talkatives, writing plays –  Felispeaks is currently enjoying creating poetry and performance pieces that always promises to introduce her audience to the journey of emotion in every story. Honoured to share her thought processes about life’s experiences and her passions on stage; Felispeaks hopes to inspire thought, excitement and perspective.

Felispeaks has graced some prestigious stages such as National Concert Hall, Dublin Castle, opening for THISISPOPBABY’S RIOT show and Kate Tempest on the Vicar St stage as well as for Saul Williams on the Sugar Club stage, Olympia Theatre in response to Repeal the 8th, Theatre Stage at Electric Picnic, Smock Alley Theatre in 2018 and 2019. Felispeaks has also participated in festivals such as Mother Tongues Festival (Talkatives, February 2020 Tallaght ), Women and Children First in Ghent, Belgium March 2020, St. Patrick’s Festival 2018, 2019, 2020; First Fortnight Festival, Dublin 2018, 2020; Dublin Fringe Festival 2018, 2019 – Wexford Literary Festival 2019,  Cuirt International Galway Festival 2019, Electric Picnic 2018, O’Bheal Winter Warmer Festival Cork 2018.

Samual Yakura

Samuel Yakura is a Nigerian Born Poet and Performing Artist residing in Ireland. From co-curating the Waterford Speakers corner poetry which is one of the new summer events for Summer in the city, Waterford, to winning the #1 Talkatives Slam Competition in Dublin put together by Boundless and Bare, Slightmotif and Wearegriot, he’s been buzzing in the art scene.

Towards the end of 2019, he was among the 6 Poets shortlisted for Poetry Ireland’s Versify 2019 which was an Initiative to offer Spoken-word Poets mentoring and practical guidance around their work through intensive workshops and showcase with renowned Poets as part of the Dublin fringe Festival 2019.

Presently, he’s the newest Member of WeareGriot, a poetry collective consisting of himself, Dagogo Hart & Felicia Olusanya – curating poetry/rap events – Talkatives, and writing plays for Stage Productions with their newest work DEITIES underway.

He is passionate about spoken word/Performance Poetry and strongly believes it is today’s re- evolution from page poetry to engage Society’s narratives and the human condition in ways only the Arts have potential to, and he’s committed to giving his voice to the cause.

Leke Ogunde

Leke Ogunde is a Nigerian born, Irish bred, spoken word poet and an avid fan of all things creative. A proud graduate of TU Dublin, when Leke is not working as a Biochemist, he can be found at open mic nights in and around Dublin where he shares personal pieces surrounding themes of family, culture and love.
